My road to the Pro Tour.

I'm Ryan Williamson. I've been playing Magic since the beginning of the Zendikar block, and playing competitively since the release of M11. This is where I will share my thoughts on top decks, cards, and the Magic the Gathering Type 2 standard format in general.
This is my road to the Pro Tour.

Will I see

any of you in Charlotte this weekend or in Florida next month at the 5ks?

Just missed

top 8 at the qualifier by tapping out on turn 7 for an Inferno Titan against Boros and clear every creature off of his board while I was at 19 life in game 3 while my opponent only had one card in hand only to have him rip a fetchland, mark my Inferno strap it with adventuring gear, play and pop his fetch land to make inferno a 11/11 and spent his last two mana to strap my inferno to his Bonehoard, there were 6 across all graveyards. The Inferno was a 17/17 at this point. He swings with it dealing 3 to me with Infernos trigger and I am forced to take the 17 damage. Worst beating I’ve ever taken.

I was playing Rug.

Q
Do you guys draft often? I personally think I'd rather but more time and energy into drafting than constructed for the time being.

Jordon and I (Ryan) usually draft once or twice a week together on MODO, and I know he drafts a lot more often than that. I can’t really speak for the rest of the team though. I love constructed!

What

are you guys taking to your FNM’s tonight?

Submit your deck list.

FNM report.

I went 4-1 only dropping a match to the mirror with rug tonight at FNM. Not too too bad.

If I were to run Valakut…

right now in standard(Which is one of the top 3 most powerful decks in my opinion,) my list would look very similiar to this:

If you’re wondering, “Where’s Harrow?!” it is not a card any Valakut player will enjoy casting in a Spell Pierce heavy environment. It can MURDER the tempo of the deck. I reallly really like Viridian Emissary although he is not in this list at all and me saying this is completely irrelevant, but it’s synergy with Slagstorm and Pyroclasm are amazing. I would actually include him in any Valakut list I would run, I made this one for a friend to be honest, and he doesn’t want to play without Overgrown Battlement. My list probably looks a little weird with Inferno Titan in the sideboard and Acidic Slime in the main, but I feel like Acidic Slime is a lot more relevant with the current meta. It can hurt RUG’s tricolor mana base, handles swords in the Caw Blade match up (which infinitely makes the match up better,) and it takes out Valakuts and Khalni Heart Expeditions in the mirror. I would probably try to fit a 4th Green’s Sun Zenith in this paticular build since it fetches out your win condition and Acidic Slime which hits the current meta so hard. It’s just a really versitle card right now, and it also allows things like Avenger of Zendikar and Oracle of Mul Daya to be perfectly effecient one ofs. These are just some of my opinions on Valakut right now and how I would approach it. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Sorry for the lack of posting lately.

I’ve been really busy lately. But I recently went to Washington D.C. for the 5k there and we’ve all actually been actively playing
Ascension haha. It’s addicting. We’re going to be testing tonight and hopefully we’ll get back to normal. Everything has just been so cluttered. Sorry.
